Beyond Parks Initiative

Kenya's #1 Best Conservation Model

Protecting Biodiversity
Beyond the Protected Areas

Every fragile ecosystem is somebody’s home. Empowering local communities through ecotourism is every conservationist’s obligation. For an ecosystem to remain successful, it relies on the community those benefits from initiatives supported by responsible conservation practice. Some of these benefits include good health, sanitation, and access to education, resilient cultures, strong social infrastructures, food security, and indirect benefits.

Part of a holistic solution to a problem that if left unchecked could result in having to restock our wildernesses in the next few years’ time. Through ecotourism, we’ve designed the Beyond Parks Initiative as a solution to tackle poverty, protect communities, conserve nature, and effect cultural change only where it’s absolutely necessary.

For us, ensuring that we have the greatest impact has meant Oluokos creating its own signature footprint. We treasure our community; we’re dearly attached to nature as we depend on it for our lifelong income. The success of our approach requires three vital ingredients: conservation, commerce, and community.

Katotoi Hills – Included Tourism Highlights

Katotoi Hills stands majestically between Kenya’s last frontier, the acacia plains, the fertile dusty woodlands of the Iteso land, and the serenity of the Malaba River. With our ecotourism initiative, we have spent a good part of our lives working closely with the Iteso, and don’t forget the Oluokos are Nilotes too and this makes us be proudly associated with our Iteso community, the birds, wildlife, and land surrounding our nature-loving family. Ouma Oluoko, founder of the Oluokos Signature, and his wife, Christine spend the majority of their time visiting these environs with guests to understand the beauty amidst the needs and struggles of the Iteso and initiate ventures that will make a real difference in the future.

Safari & Conservation

Our safari and conservation concept offers a genuinely ethical volunteer project and in this case, Katotoi Hills is real, sustainable, and impactful. Our project is a life-changing experience, for extraordinary people with curious minds.

Our aim is to restore Kenya’s last nature’s habitat to its previous abundance. We do this through the empowerment of our community, the support of grass-roots organisations and your support. Katotoi was carefully chosen to ensure that our community and nature can coexist in harmony.

What Our
Clients Say
About Katotoi

{"capture_mode":"AutoModule","faces":[]}

My friends and I had a blast spending the day birding around Malaba and Busia with Ouma Oluoko’s guidance! Ouma is such a kind and friendly guide, not to mention very knowledgable on not only the birds of the area but also the landscape, cultures, and communities that we encountered. He and his wife Awuor (or Christine) clearly have very good relationships with the people who live in the areas we visited and are doing great work trying to educate locals on the importance of conservation and conserving the land themselves where possible.
The Oluokos had us over to their home for a wonderful home-cooked meal (I unfortunately couldn’t only eat so much as I was suffering from a stomach bug) and gracious hospitality that I haven’t encountered with other guiding companies before. I can highly recommend using Oluokos Signature for your birding adventures in western Kenya and beyond!
